Science of bingo
• One of the ways to teach a child about science is the learning game. It can even work wonders with a stubborn child and prepare him for a forthcoming test in the most interesting manner. The basic idea and information about science can be achieved through Science Bingo. For kids, only a small portion of science could suffice in order to play the game as well grasp the areas of science that is absolutely necessary for them to know. For older students, you could force them to cover a considerable portion of their science knowledge for them to play.
• On one side of the note card, write down 25 set of questions and on the other side, the corresponding answers. The answer must consist of very few words or letters. For instance, if the question is, “How is the element Nickel written in short form?” The answer is just “Ni”. If the questions are meant for children then, they should be simple and if they are meant for grownups, then they should be harder.
• Design squares that are at least 5 squares in length as well as 5 squares in width. You could take the help of the computer to construct the tables or you could also draw them using a marker. Try to make the table as large as you can but make sure that it fits well in a single printer paper.
• Write an answer for a question in each of the squares. Be careful about not reproducing the same kind of pattern on the bingo squares while you answer, or else you might end up in multiple numbers of persons cracking bingo at the same time.
• Each person must be provided with a science bingo card and a few bingo chips.
• Call out one question, and then wait for them to answer. After that, call out the next question and so on. You can approach either of the following two techniques while calling out the questions. You could either discuss the questions while you dictate them, before the players mark the answers in their respective science bingo cards. This will ensure that the players get most of the answers correct. You can also opt to save the precious discussion of the answers till the game is over and validate a card. The person, who manages to get 5 consecutive chips, wins.
