Good Science fiction book or series?

I am a fan of science fiction entertainment such as star wars and games like mass effect, so i am wondering what science fiction book or series has these types of themes or style that are worth reading?

Timothy Zahn is one of the best Sci-Fi writers of this era. Any book written by him is usually good enough to keep you turning the pages.

He has written at least 8 feature books in the Star Wars EU (Expanded Universe of books) and quite a few short stories. He is the person responsible for the resurgence of the Star Wars story because without his 3 book set dubbed “The Thrawn Trilogy” Star Wars would still be in some forgotten room on life support. The titles are “Heir To The Empire”, “Dark Force Rising”, & “The Last Command”. The Last Command is one of only a few books that I have ever read cover to cover in one setting. I literally could not put it down until I had read the whole thing. I would be remiss if I didn’t qualify that by saying that I’m one of the biggest Star Wars geeks you’ll ever find and that probably had a lot to do with the fact that I couldn’t put it down … the storyline had grabbed on to me and I just HAD to know how it ended. This 3 book set is also the only books of the Star Wars EU that have been given the “official stamp” by Lucas as the continuation of the Star Wars story. All of the other books and comics ARE sanctioned by Lucas but he has not given them the “official stamp” as of yet.
