Science Books On Density

Does anyone know anything about Chemistry and density?
I have two chemistry questions about density and temperature and volume
1. Acetone, a common solvent, has a density of .79 g/mL at 20 degrees Celsius. What is the volume os 100 grams of acetone at 20 degrees Celsius?
2. When determining the density of a pure liquid or a solution, the temperature of the sample should be measured. Explain why the density of a liquid sample depends on the temperature?
Thanks everyone, my science book didn’t explain it well and neither did the teacher.
oh ok! that’s like the factor and label method we learned. thanks so much

Have you seen a technique called “demensional analysis” before? It’s great for these kinds of problems. For this, use density as a conversion factor to convert mass to volume:
1 ml /0.79 g x 100g/1 = (1 ml x 100 g) / (0.79 g x 1)
the g’s cancel out and you end up with:
100 ml
———- = ? ml (I don’t have a calculator handy)
0.79
I’m ignoring the temperature for the calculation because it doesn’t change, so it doesn’t affect the situation at all. Temperature change does change density, though. Remember that increasing temperature causes atoms to move around more (kinetic energy). When they move around more, they move farther apart, causing them to be less densely arranged in space. So, when temperature increases, density decreases. Density and temperature have an inversely proportional relationship.
