Texas: More than Football, Oil Wells and Bluebonnets
Texas vacations give visitors an amazing variety of attractions from deserts, lush hill country, metropolitan cities and coastal areas. Here’s a list of 10 large and small cities and towns and just a few of my recommended must-sees.
Austin Texas – The state’s capital gives you the Governor’s Mansion and the Austin Bats…yes, bats. You can also visit the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
Arlington Texas – This year the newest and most exciting attraction opened; the new stadium for the famous Dallas Cowboys. In addition, the well-known favorite attraction, Six Flags Over Texas, is still open and thrilling visitors every day of the year.
Canton Texas – A small town, aside from a couple of good golf courses, the only thing that happens here is the once-a-month huge flea market; First Monday Trade Days. Held the weekend of the first Monday of the month, it draws dealers and visitors from all over Texas and surrounding states.
Corpus Christi Texas – Located on the Gulf Coast, this is a beach town to draws visitors from all over the world. Besides the beach, they also enjoy attractions such as the Texas State Aquarium and the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.
Dallas Texas – A large cosmopolitan city, with much to offer, many visitors only remember Dallas as the place where John F. Kennedy was assassinated. If that’s you, then you’ll want to visit the former Texas School Book Depository, now the Sixth Floor Museum. After thank go to the Zero Gravity Thrill Amusement Park Dallas, you’ll be glad you did.
Fort Worth Texas – More than just “Cow Town”, this city is like a sophisticated lady in a couture gown hiding a pair of well-worn cowboy boots. That’s why you will find the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s Bass Performance Hall just down the road from the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District.
Fredericksburg Texas – Here you’ll find the Fredericksburg Herb Farm, the National Museum of the Pacific War and the Wildseed Farms.
Galveston Vacation – On this island you can splash in the water of at the beach or at the Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark. Before you leave, visit the Texas Seaport Museum and take a ride on the Treasure Isle Tour Train.
Houston Texas – The largest city in Texas is the home of the Johnson Space Center, the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center, and for laughs, the National Museum of Funeral History.
South Padre Island Texas – One of the most popular spring break destinations in the United States this island that runs parallel to the Texas coast off much more than beach fun. Check out Captain Murphy’s Deep Sea Fishing and the Dolphin Research and Sea Life Nature Center.
