The first video game ever invented.?

I’m doing a science fair project on video games and there is a research part where I have to find information about my topic which is video games.I need to know the first video game invented,its name,who created it and when it was created.Thank you all who answers with some information in advance.
Also,can you tell me the most popular video game ever.I went on google and it had many websites with all different video games said to be the best.I don’t know which is really the most popular video game.

i would say mario, or pac man (for most popular) currently gta has best reviews, since mario, but i dont like it…halo and gears have gotten a lot of regognition, but that’s just b/c they’re “next generation” and what not

I would think on the calssics and only metion a few present games b/c the classics are where you’re gonna find the coolest informatino (unless it’s on the creation in which case curent games are harder to make and cooler to make)
